Research framework

Evidence, attribution and responsible reuse.

The project brings together statutory records, government and institutional collections, cemetery registers, academic references, specialist heritage projects and local custodians. Links below identify the principal collections consulted; each map or person record retains its more specific source link.

How evidence is used

Sources establish a place or person’s recorded name, date, location, association and surviving evidence. Claims are paraphrased and checked against direct or authoritative records where possible. Conflicting spellings, dates and identifications are retained as uncertainty rather than silently resolved.

Evidence grades

A denotes statutory, government or official custodian evidence; B council, cemetery, museum, academic or specialist research; C local-history or visitor material requiring corroboration; and D a community or field lead requiring verification. A documentary match does not mean every site has been physically inspected.

Images and copyright

A citation or photographer credit does not itself grant permission to republish. Images require a verified public-domain basis, an applicable open licence with its conditions met, or written permission from the rightsholder. Where clearance is absent, material should remain research-only, be removed, or be replaced before publication.

Data, privacy and cultural care

Factual data may still come from protected compilations or services with reuse conditions. Source attribution and licence terms are retained, including CAFHOV’s CC BY-NC 4.0 notice. Sensitive locations are generalised, and living-person, burial, cultural and private-property concerns can trigger review or removal.
